Navigation One (2016)
Navigation One is a durational performance piece made in collaboartion with tattoo artist Paul Stillen and COMA.
Through the work, the artist’s soles are tattooed with an image that will inevitably fade. Through the process, the artist explores the potential for pain as an instrument of navigation within the body. The influence of pressure from the artist’s weight upon the tattoo allows it to act as a way to chart the artist’s movements; the distance she has walked and how she has held herself within it.
Over time and application of pressure, the tattoo fades. The artist observes and records the fading lines as they begin to record time along with the residue of memory.
